於1967年，乘著加拿大建國100週年的廣設學院風潮而正式成立，成立之初為了紀念George Brown (1818-1880)先生對加拿大政治及出版業的改革、貢獻，便以George Brown為多倫多市中心唯一的學院命名。
從此 George Brown Polytechnic 便以全新的姿態與世人相見，目前它是大多倫多地區四大學院之一，所提供的學歷也為台灣教育部所接受。
